I must admit that I like watching US television (TV) series, they’re worth the time and the story-line is better than a film of this certain director — or maybe all his films! I cannot help but think why can’t we have this kind of television shows here in the Philippines. And then it hit me, we had it before but the regular audience wouldn’t like it now.
Let’s say Coco Martin acting as a lawyer or a doctor or a detective. He may have lisp, but I think it’s more appealing that a zero-grade actor who I would not name. Gone are the days of the great television show era, or the golden age as how showbiz writers would say, in our country. Le sigh!
Moving forward, I will share with you the US TV series that I like. They’re not the type that you’ll like on the first episode that you watched.
First, AWKWARD. I got this from Chuvaness, she’s posting it too often on her blog that I got curious and downloaded it right away. Yes, I’m using torrent!
The story is about Jena, who met an accident because of a letter her mom sent. The accident was later rumored to be her failed attempt on committing suicide. Awkward is now on its fourth season and Valerie (she’s the one with the fanny pack on the pic) is still my favorite character. I hope Aunt Ally comes back and become regular for the show. Tamara and Sadie’s character is becoming a little bit boring for me.
Another TV series that I’m hooked on watching is NURSE JACKIE.
Nurse Jackie is a black comedy show about a New York nurse who’s addicted to prescription drugs. She gets the drugs by having sex with the pharmacist or to dead people. I don’t know why I love it, but it appeals to me or maybe because Peter Facinelli and Anna Deavere-Smith are part of the ensemble. I really think that MoMo should come back in for this season. What do you think?
But the serious medical series that I watch is GREY’S ANATOMY. Fine, I know that there’s too much McSteamy happening there but I just love it! I love Miranda Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) character and how Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) treats her intern.
Now on its 9th season, Grey’s Anatomy is still relevant for me. I didn’t like House, that’s why. I find the other series too serious and too heavy for me, or maybe I just like to see McSteamy topless. But, I miss Drs. Stevens and Sloan.
Adding up to this list is HBO’s new series THE NEWSROOM. Created by Aaron Sorkin, it’s a preview on how to run a news station.
I remember watching the episode where they are trying to deliver the news that Osama Bin Laden was killed by American soldiers, it moved me to tears. Grabe! You have to watch it as the second season is going to be aired on July.
I also love Olivia Munn’s character here, she’s the resident economist for the news agency and there was this episode where she acted as a translator for a Japanese and went crazy!
Last, but certainly not the least! Ladies and gents, SUITS.
I have to put a large photo for this. Haha! Call me bias but who wouldn’t be for this two boys. The series is about a law firm in New York, Pearson-Hardman, where Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) is a senior partner and have Mike Ross (Patrick Adams) as his assistant.
I love all of the character specially Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) and Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty). I love how the two of them quarrel and give in to each other’s weaknesses.
Let’s just have a last look of Harvey and Mike! Just one lang!
